Stanley Vinson Cobb's Obituary
Vinson was born to proud parents Stanley and Bess Vinson Cobb of Big Rock, TN, in Stewart County. There he attended Big Rock Elementary and Dover High School. He graduated High School from Battle Ground Academy. He attended Austin Peay University upon his graduation from BGA. He was married to Anita Atkins and was a devoted and loving husband for 69 years. After marriage he and Anita moved to Memphis where he worked for Colonial and Harts bakeries. After that he had a Pepperidge Farm franchise until he retired. During his working years he made many friends and treasured memories that always brought a smile to his face. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church for 67 years. During that time he grew in his love for God and gained many Spiritual Memories and Blessings. Vinson was an avid golfer; while he enjoyed playing the game, his favorite time was his annual trip to the Masters. In addition to his love of golf; his passion was the Memphis State Tigers. During one stretch he attended 158 straight home football games. He also loved the game of Baseball. He played first base for Big Rock for many years and hit many a home run during his time there. He is preceded in death by his parents Stanley and Bess Cobb, a devoted step mother, Grace Roby Cobb, and his daughter Ann Cobb. He is survived by his wife Anita, brother, Bill, Daughter Susan Cotten(Orvie), Grandson Matt Cotten(Christa), Grand daughter, Nancy Robertson(Tyler). The lights of his life, his 4 special Great Grand Children, Chloe and Bryce Cotten and Evie and William Robertson. Cousins Gayle Pirtle(Jim) and Diane Whipple(Dan). Bruce Wallace(Joyce), Judy Wood(Dick), Sherry Cobb, Rita West(son Paden) and a host of wonderful friends. The family will receive friends Monday, November 18, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. followed by funeral services all at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will be Tuesday, November 19 at 11:00 a.m. at Smith Cemetery in Big Rock, TN.The family requests that in lieu of flowers a donation be make in Vinson’s honor to Alzheimer Associaton or First Baptist Church. The family greatly appreciates the love and caring of Belmont Village, Compassus Hospice, and Senior Helpers.
