Silas Quinton White, Jr.'s Obituary
Silas Quinton White, Jr, 94 went to be with the Lord on Monday August 27, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Quinton or Buddy as he was known by close family and friends was born in 1924 in Como, MS to Silas and Alice Hawkins White, the fifth of seven children. He graduated from Whitehaven High School in 1943. Willie Mae Timbes and Quinton began their lives together in high school and were married in 1943 shortly before he joined the Army and left for his tour of duty in New Guinea during World War II. Upon returning from the war in 1946 they began their family by raising three children, creating an enduring 75 years of marriage together. Quinton worked as a telephone technician for BellSouth for 38 years before retiring in 1983. Quinton was a loving family man who devoted his life to Christ, to his three children, seven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. He was a member of Whitehaven United Methodist Church for more than 50 plus years before moving to Emmanuel United Methodist Church. His large family cherishes their memories with him. Known as Pepaw to his many grandkids, he adored them all.He is survived by his wife Willie Mae, daughter Nancy Johnson(Jack), son Tommy(Marianne), Grandchildren Ronnie(Kim), Clay Johnson(Ginny), Kelly Lumpkin(Bryan), Jennifer Everett(Lewis), Jason Dill(Michelle), Timothy(Melissa), Brett(Morissa); Great Grandchildren Seth and Abby Johnson, Nathan and Jackson Lumpkin, Wyatt, Clara and Isaac Everett, Jaxson and Jase Dill, Tanner and Tara White; Leighton, Brantley, and Macy Jo White. Quinton was preceded in death by his parents, his son Ron(Betty), his daughter-in-law Tara, and brothers GC, Berlyn, James, Charles, William(Doc). He is survived by his only sister Doris Ryan. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, September, 2 at Memorial Park Funeral Home at 5668 Poplar Avenue. Visitation with family and friends will be from 1:30 to 2:30pm with services at 2:30. In Lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Memphis, TN.
