Sidney Brooks Holden
Sidney Brooks Holden, 81, of Arlington, TN, formerly of Pontotoc County, MS, passed away on October 12, 2022, while at home on hospice.
A graveside service will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home at 12 noon on Thursday, October 20, 2022, with a gathering in the main building starting at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Gideons International.
Sidney was born on November 2, 1940, in Pontotoc County, MS, to James Kimble and Ulalar Hale Holden. He married Sarah Holden in 1996. From 1958 – 1960, he served his country in the Army at Fort Lee, VA. Sidney was an entrepreneur who owned his own grocery store, Sid’s Silver Saver, in Ellendale, TN, before he retired. He loved watching college sports, camping, boating, and tending to his horses. As one of his nephews recalled: “Uncle Sid was a fun, jovial man who always had a smile for you.” That is how he should always be remembered.
Surviving are his loving wife Sarah Holden of Arlington, TN, daughters Leighanne (Vince) Dauro, of Hazel Green, AL, Michelle (Jimmy) Bollenbach of Memphis, TN, and Amy (Vikas) Thapar, of Hilton Head, SC, and step-daughters Angela, Julie, and Amy. He had 4 wonderful grandchildren, Adam Dauro, Alisa (Dauro) Clark, Monica Thapar, and Charlie Thapar, as well as 3 great-grandchildren. Sidney was from a large family, and has many who love him in Pontotoc County, MS, and the surrounding area from brothers and sisters to nieces and nephews.
Sidney was preceded in death by his first wife, Peggy Jo Dillon Holden, and parents.
