Shirley Ann Sternberg-Geiger's Obituary
After a long battle with cancer, Shirley Ann Sternberg-Geiger left her earthly home and was escorted to her eternal residence, to live in the presence of her Heavenly Father, on April 19, 2019. She was born in Enid, Oklahoma to Ed Beckham and Helen Bushnell Beckham on August 8, 1935. She is preceded in death by her parents and first husband, Lloyd David Sternberg – her high school sweetheart. They were married for 47 years and had two children – Karen and Gary.Shirley’s inward beauty even surpassed her outward beauty. Her love and service to God, family, and friends was her special gift. It was well known that she sincerely loved people and was always willing to be of service to others. She will be remembered for her positive and encouraging spirit, not only to her children and grandchildren, but to all she encountered. She was an effervescent, active person and never met a stranger. She wanted everyone to reach their full potential as they followed the direction of their Lord.Since 1982, Shirley was a faithful member of Germantown Baptist Church. Through the years, she served in various capacities including as a member of the Hallelujah Chorus and Agape Sunday School Class. Agape made regular visits to homebound nursing homes and served families of patients in the Baptist Hospital ICU waiting room by praying with them and ministering to their spiritual needs.Shirley worked through the 1970s as an office manager to Dr. Charles E. Wilkinson, DDS and in the 1980’s at St. Francis Hospital in the Radiology department.She is survived by; her present husband, James William (Bill) Geiger, her 2 children, Karen Sternberg Hubbard (Sonny) and Gary Sternberg (Stacey), her 5 grandchildren, Jeff Hubbard (Kera), Allison Hubbard Ford (Patrick), Madison Sternberg, Halle Sternberg, and Carly Sternberg, and her 6 great grandchildren, Hannah Hubbard, Harper Hubbard, Henley Hubbard, Tyler Brooke Ford, Cohen Ford, and Natalie Ford. She also leaves her extended family; Kirby Geiger and his children, Aaron and Taylor, Laurie Geiger Albritton (Marshall) and their children Grace and Kelsey, Lin Geiger Lytle (Nate) and their children, Michael, Lauren, Kaylin, Shelton, Noah, and Analese, and Susan Geiger Harms (Mike) and their children, Isaac and Elijah. She will also be sincerely missed by; her siblings, Judy Stark, Mike Beckham (Mary), and Tim Beckham (Nancy), her sister-in-law, Denyse Sternberg, wife of her deceased brother-in-law (Elden) and a host of nieces and nephews.Visitation will occur at Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis, TN on April 26th (5pm to 7pm) and 27th (9am), followed by the funeral service at 10:00am.In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to the Wings Volunteer Program or the Hallelujah Choir.For Wings, make checks payable to “Wings” and insert “Volunteer Program in Memory of Shirley Sternberg-Geiger” on the memo line.
