Shirley Brandon's Obituary
Shirley Carr Brandon, aged 92, of Germantown TN passed away in her sleep on Tuesday, June 19, 2018. She was born on October 17, 1925 as Shirley Adele Carr in Springfield, Pennsylvania. to Frank P. Carr, Jr. and Marguerite Ramos Carr. She is survived by her three children, Daniel M. Brandon, Jr. (Brenda Brandon), Diane L. Brandon, and Barbara B. Price; one sister, Betty C. Tully-Walz; five grandchildren, Madison Treadway, Tory Moore, Everett Price, Jordan Price, and Cheney Price; one great-grandson, Oakley Treadway; and seven nieces and nephews, Dr. Kenneth Thompson, James Tully, Debbie Shedrick, Jeff Carr, Pamela Carr, Kathy Derrick, and Cindy Knecht. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Daniel M. Brandon Sr., to whom she had been married for 66 years when he passed away in 2010, her sister, Peggy Day, and brother Frank P. Carr, III.She met her future husband on a blind date when they were both working on defense projects at Westinghouse in Philadelphia PA during World War II and they married on November 18, 1944. She lived in New Orleans for many years until her husband’s retirement, after which they moved to Germantown, Tennessee. Their businesses led her travel to a number of cities for meetings and conventions. She was a homemaker who loved her family and centered her life around them.She was active in several community and charitable organizations, including the Variety Club of New Orleans, Homemakers Association of Lake Terrace, Home Demonstration, and the New Orleans Museum of Art volunteers. She was a communicant at Oak Park Presbyterian Church and later Lake Vista Methodist Church in New Orleans, and at Colonial Park Methodist Church in Memphis TN. She loved experiencing new things. She took courses in yoga and meditation and loved music and had a beautiful singing voice. She also excelled in making various crafts, including sewing and needlepoint, and was a wonderful cook and loved cooking for family and guests. Her husband and she hosted many guests over the years and she thoroughly enjoyed entertaining them. She had many friends and will be fondly remembered and missed by many.The family will receive friends at 1:30 p.m. and funeral services celebrating her life will follow at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, June 30 at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery in Memphis, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Colonial Park Methodist Church, 5330 Park Avenue, Memphis TN 38119.
