Sharon Sue Haygood Boone's Obituary
Sharon Sue Haygood Boone, 81, of Germantown, TN, passed away on November 13, 2023, in Germantown, TN.
Sharon was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Dr. Charles Wendell and Martha Louise Donart Haygood on February 13, 1942. She was always a loving sister, mother, and wife; there were never any harsh words from her. Perhaps, losing family members at an early age made her all too aware of how important loving is. She grew up in the First Baptist Church in Shawnee and was a graduate of Shawnee High School and the University of Oklahoma where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. She married her lifelong sweetheart Paul Robert Boone on June 1, 1963, in Shawnee. She received a M. Ed. from Memphis State University, focused on reading enrichment. She accompanied Bob to Hawaii, New Mexico, Georgia, and Puerto Rico as part of his naval career, finally landing in Millington, Tennessee. She spent her teaching career at E.A. Harold Elementary, Millington, Tennessee, and Dogwood Elementary of Germantown, Tennessee. Over many years, she touched the lives of countless students and was a pioneer of computer resources in the elementary classroom. Sharon also mentored other teachers across TN. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and active in Kappa Delta alumni activities.
Sharon’s true love (outside of her family) was sports. She was a University of Memphis and Oklahoma Sooners superfan. She and Bob had season tickets to Tigers basketball (men’s and women’s) and football, never missing a game. They were regular attendees at radio shows and coaches' events, and active members of the alumni association. Sharon was even known to text the coaches and players to share her support.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, grandchild Molly, and in-laws Paul Robert and AnnLee Boone.
Sharon is survived by her husband of 60 years, Bob, her daughter Susan Lynne Boone Roberts (David Pinckney), Knoxville, Tennessee, sisters Charlotte Haygood Andrew, of Yukon, Oklahoma, and Linda Haygood Belford (Ray), Shawnee, Oklahoma and grandchildren Grace McLain Roberts and Eliza Jane Roberts, Knoxville, Tennessee and nephews and nieces.
The family of Sharon wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of Harborchase Community.
