Scott A. Mathis' Obituary
The Lord welcomed Scott home into his loving arms on Thursday, July 31, 2014 in Salt Lake City, Utah.Scott, the youngest of three children, was born to Charles M. and Pamela M. Mathis on June 30, 1981. He was raised in Salt Lake City, Utah and graduated from East High School in 1999. Following his graduation from East, Scott attended the University of Utah before continuing on to take classes at Scuola Leonardo da Vinci in Rome, Italy; the University of Memphis in Memphis, TN; and Northern Virginia Community College just outside of Washington D.C.Though his life ended far too soon, Scott made sure to fill the time he had with many experiences that brought him happiness and joy. His pursuit of knowledge and understanding was an important part of his shortened journey, and was something that he never abandoned. From his early childhood, it was easy to see that Scott was special. His ability to perceive coupled with his strong sense of empathy, led him to seek out and help, befriend, and love those with wounded souls, and those who had lost their direction. The profound love from his family, the support from his friends, and the memories he has left us with is evidence that Scott’s humanity will always outshine his complexities.Scott is survived, and will be missed by his parents Charles and Pam, his sister Gretchen (Anastasios), his brother Marc (Adriann), and several loving and supportive aunts, uncles, cousins, and his new nephew Jack.Funeral services for Scott will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, August 7 at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Memphis, TN. The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, ” Behind the Stone Wall”.
