Sarah "Shirley" Henry's Obituary
Sarah “Shirley” Henry went home to be with the Lord on Monday June 11, 2018. She was born on February 3, 1934 in Akron, Ohio to Joseph and Laura Azar. She grew up in Akron with siblings Toni, Bob, and Joanne. At age 6 she lost her father and her mother became very ill so she and her siblings began an eight-year journey of living with various extended family members and in foster homes. Throughout this difficult period, she grew to be resilient, determined, and deeply passionate about helping others. In 1953, she met the love of her life, Jack Henry and they were married a few years later. Throughout their 58 years of marriage, she served as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was also an entrepreneur who launched and operated two retail businesses during the 1980s. Her true passion was serving and helping people, whether it be family, friends, or her many charitable endeavors including the Salvation Army, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, the Bay Area Rescue Mission, and many others. She was also a driving force in the founding of the Page Robbins Adult Day Care facility in Collierville through her service as President of the Collierville Alzheimer’s Auxiliary in the mid/late 90s and Board member from 1997-2001. Her passion, drive, humor, and deep love of her family and friends will be greatly missed. Shirley is survived by her sons Michael Sr., Mark, and Matt, grandchildren Jessica, Michael Jr., Rachel, Kathryn, and Luke, and great grandchildren Colton, Katelyn, and Chance. A memorial service will be held in her honor on Friday June 15, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 2404 Kirby Rd, Memphis, TN, 38119.
