Sarah Deane Guy's Obituary
SARAH DEANE STRONG GUY, 89, passed away on August 13, 2010. She grew up on a farm near Eads, TN and remained close through the years to many of her cousins in that same area. She obtained a home economics degree in 1942 at U.T. Knoxville. While at school she met and married her husband James. They enjoyed 66 years of marriage. Mrs. Guy was an active member of St. Luke’s Methodist Church. She attended St. Luke’s from 1952 to 1960 and rejoined in 1987. She was active in several church circles and taught Sunday School. Mrs. Guy’s passions were cooking, sewing, playing golf and growing roses. She taught school occasionally but spent most of her life raising her four boys, enjoying her grandchildren and volunteering to help those in need. She judged cooking and sewing at the Mid-South Fair. She made clothes and taught sewing to under-privileged families. She traveled throughout Tennessee playing golf with her dear friends from Union City, Tennessee. She mastered growing roses and was a lifelong member of the Dixie Rose Club. She was a consulting rosarian. She is survived by her four sons, James L. Guy,Jr., of Memphis, Robert A. Guy of New Orleans, Tom S. Guy of Andover, Massachusetts, and Don D. Guy of Lebanon, TN, and her brother, William Atlee Strong of Pine Bluff, AR. Mrs. Guy has 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Monday, August 16 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 17, at St. Luke’s Methodist Church.
