Sarah Burchfield's Obituary
SARAH ELIZABETH MARTIN BURCHFIELD, 87, died peacefully in her sleep Sunday, February 17, 2013.Born December 31, 1925 she was preceded in death by her beloved husband Bill Burchfield. She is survived by her adult children: Susan Carlisle Elliott, Sarah “Kitty” Martin, David C. Burchfield and John W. Dabbs, Sr. In addition to her surviving sister, Ruth Decker, she also leaves behind many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great and great-great grandchildren along with numerous friends and family. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Marian Delores Martin.She was a member of Idlewild Presbyterian Church and, until her health deteriorated, was active in Sunday School and Bible study classes, the OWLS group and served in the children’s resource library.As the first female bank vice president in Memphis, she served on numerous boards including American Institute of Banking. She was retired from Commercial & Industrial Bank and Associated Realty Services.“Mrs. B” and “her Bill” were great dance partners. At one time, a twice-a-week league bowler, she loved music, playing cards and crossword puzzles. She passed along her strong work ethic, love of reading and the inability to sing to her children.There will be a memorial service at Idlewild Presbyterian Church at 1750 Union Avenue on Wednesday, February 20 at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be held at the church following the service.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Idlewild Presbyterian Church or to the charity of donor’s choice.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, (901)767-8930, “Behind the Stone Wall”.Location: Woodlawn Arrow Color: White
