Sara Skipper Thompson's Obituary
Sara Skipper Thompson
December 8, 1950 – August 23, 2025
Sara Skipper Thompson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, entered into the presence of the Lord on August 23, 2025, at the age of 74.
Sara devoted her life to serving the Lord and caring for others. She worked faithfully as an ER nurse at Methodist North, a school nurse at Bartlett High School, and concluded her career at Methodist Germantown. Beyond her profession, she poured her heart into serving families at Joy McDaniel Academy of Dance, where she lovingly supported generations of dancers. She was a faithful member of Advent Presbyterian Church, cherishing opportunities to serve in the kitchen, play handbells on Sundays, and fellowship with dear friends through Bible studies, potlucks, and holiday celebrations.
Sara was the heartbeat of her family. She cherished every moment together, loving them more than anything—and she was wonderful at it. She is survived by her husband and best friend, Doug Thompson; her daughter, Kayla Pennington, and son-in-law, Chris Pennington; and her treasured grandchildren who were her absolute pride and joy: Cole (9), Harrison (6), and George (2). She is also survived by her daughter, Jessica Guerra, son-in-law, Ed Guerra, and granddaughter, Madison Olson, whom she loved deeply, along with many extended family members and dear friends who enriched her life. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer Lynn Thompson.
Known for her kind spirit, joyful heart, and, at times, feisty Southern personality, Sara had a way of making everyone feel seen and cared for. She gave her full attention to whoever was in front of her. She deeply loved Alabama football (always cheering, “Roll Tide!”), perhaps even holding the title of the team’s biggest fan. She never turned down a yard sale find or an opportunity to negotiate a $1 deal, and she believed sweet tea was the cure for most things. Her sweet tooth was legendary—especially her love for Frost Bake Shop cookies, key lime pie, and banana puddin’. She delighted in holiday traditions that brought her family together year after year.
Sara’s legacy is one of kindness, laughter, faith, and love for the Lord—a life that touched countless others through her daily acts of service. She will be remembered for the way she listened deeply, gave freely, and loved unconditionally.
