Sara Jane Scott Greenlee's Obituary
Sara Jane was born to Roy and Sara Bryant on December 29, 1929 and grew up in Milan, TN. She was valedictorian of her high school class. She graduated from Southwestern (Rhodes) College in 1952 where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority and Phi Beta Kappa. She served as alumni advisor to Tri-Delta at Rhodes for several years. She married Daniel Joyner Scott, Jr., MD in 1952 and became a Navy wife. They settled in Memphis in 1964 with three boys. She was active in the Medical Auxiliary for several years. She served as the campaign manager for Betty Dunn when Winfield Dunn ran for governor in 1970. She traveled to many countries with Dan going to Orthopedic meetings. At one of those meetings in Yalta of the then Soviet Union she had a discussion with Vladimir Putin posing as a journalist, then head of the KGB, about disarmament–she disagreed with him. She felt one of her greatest accomplishments was her participation in and becoming a small group leader for Community Bible Study. She was an active member at Second Presbyterian Church. She remarried Roy Greenlee 4 years after both their first spouses had died. They had been friends as couples for many years and he proposed by telling her that her grandsons needed a grandpa. They were married for 16 years. Sara Jane is preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Scott, Jr., MD; son, Roy Bryant Scott; and brother, James Bryant. She is survived by her husband, Roy Greenlee; brother, Richard Bryant of Milan; sons, Daniel J. Scott, III, MD and Hugh Scott, MD (Dawn); grandchildren Laura, William, Charles and Daniel Scott; and family gained through marriage: Greg Greenlee (Debbie), Sheilia Moncrief (Bill), Mike Greenlee (Kim), along with their children and grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:30 p.m. and a memorial service will follow at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 9 at Second Presbyterian Church. The family asks that any memorials be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, The Neighborhood Christian Center, Second Presbyterian Church or the Church Health.
