Sara Folis' Obituary
Dr. Sara Louise Gillespie Folis, 88, passed away on Thursday, October 8, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Folis, her brother, William P. Gillespie, and her sister, Jean Ellen Shemwell. Dr. Folis is survived by her brother, Captain James Gillespie (USN Retired) and her sister, Mary Sue Gillespie Gatti. She was an aunt to 22 nieces and nephews. Dr. Folis retired from Shelby County Schools as Director of Personnel and spent over forty years as an educator. She was a graduate of St. Agnes Academy, University of Memphis, and University of Tennessee where she earned her Masters and Doctorate degrees. Dr. Folis was a Communicant of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, former member and past President of Memphis Symphony League, Brooks Museum League, and Beethoven Club, she was also a member of The Madonna Circle, Circle Arts, Salvation Army Auxiliary, English Speaking Society, Delta Kappa Gamma, the Saint Agnes Academy Hall of Fame and the Scenic Hills Garden Club. She was a person of faith, a patron of the arts, a philanthropist and a world traveler. The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 14, 2015 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Memorial Park Funeral Home. A Rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m. The funeral mass will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, October 15, 2015 at St. Peter Catholic Church. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Peter Catholic Church, Memphis Symphony, St. Agnes Academy, or Memphis Brooks Museum.
