Sandra Gage Foley's Obituary
Sandra Gage Foley, 81, passed away on November 29, 2017 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis. She was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts and was the daughter of the late Margery Mogue and Alden Gage and the sister of the late Bruce Gage. Sandra graduated from Westfield High School and studied nursing at Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton, Massachusetts. She was the wife of the late Major General Thomas Carl Foley for 59 years. A devoted mother and Army wife, Sandra raised her family in numerous locations throughout the U.S. and overseas. She supported her husband throughout their 35 years of Army life, dedicating herself to other Army wives by mentoring, teaching, conducting seminars, and engaging in military conferences. She participated in these activities wherever she was stationed, always giving selflessly to what needed to be done to make life better for other military families. Her presence on boards within the Army community was invaluable, and her spirit and loyalty were unsurpassed. Sandra was awarded numerous citations and awards throughout her service to the Army, including the Outstanding Civilian Service Medal. She was an inspiration to all who knew her and was a great asset to the United States of America. Following her husband’s retirement as Commanding General of Fort Knox and his employment as President of FMC Arabia, he and Sandra moved to Collierville, Tennessee in order to be close to their grandchildren. She is survived by two children, Kevin (Lynn) Foley of Germantown, Tennessee and Kathi (James Dell) Foley of Severna Park, Maryland as well as four grandchildren, Sean Foley, Stephanie (William) Eady, Ryan Foley, and Matthew Dell. Funeral services will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest with her late husband, Major General Foley.
