Sandra Alea's Obituary
Sandra Scoville Alea passed away in her home on November 26, 2022. Mrs. Alea was born March 9, 1936 in St. Louis, MO to Paul and Ethel Scoville. She was the youngest of three children. She was preceded in death by her parents, her older sister, Lee Alyce Scoville, her infant brother, and her husband of 20 years, John Alea. Mrs. Alea is survived by her sons, Derek and Paul Spreckelmeyer, her daughter, Dawn Miner, and her grandchildren Melissa Miner Gareis and Ryan Miner.
Sandra grew up in St. Louis, MO. As a young adult, she worked as a secretary at Purina Foods. She married her first husband, Richard Spreckelmeyer on Nov 12, 1961. The young family moved several times before settling in Memphis, TN in 1969. In 1974, Sandra and Richard divorced, and she spent the next 12 years raising her three children as a single mother. She worked as a secretary at several businesses in Memphis, most notably Memphis State University and Schering Plough, where she was the Executive Secretary to the president of the company. She worked very hard to provide for her children, who are very grateful for her love and support throughout the years.
Sandra remarried on November 25, 1988, to John Alea, and they moved to Fresno, CA where they opened an Italian restaurant. They moved back to Memphis in 1992, where Sandra returned to work at Schering Plough. She retired from Plough in 2001. She then worked part time as a receptionist at Dabbles Hair Company in midtown, where she was beloved by all the staff.
Sandra loved to read mystery books, do crossword puzzles, square dance, play bridge, and visit art galleries. She was artistically talented and enjoyed decorating her home with an Asian flair. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
The visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the service time at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 10, 2022 at Memorial Park Funeral Home.
