Sallie O. Bryant's Obituary
Sallie Bryant, 78 went to be with her Lord on November 9, 2015. Born into this world as Sallie O. James, daughter of Bessie and Bon James, Sallie joins them, her predeceased husband of 38 years Robert L. Williams as well as sisters Nettie Kidd, Bonnie Gullick and brothers, Clifford James, JR James, Everette James in heaven. Sallie loved her large family and she loved having them over to her house to visit, play cards and eat her wonderful spaghetti. Her nieces and nephews loved her and always liked to visit Aunt Sallie with their soon to be wives and or husbands. Of course, they couldn’t get married until she approved! She was very involved in her daughter’s life and she especially loved working as a Girl Scout Leader where she received the Girl Scout Leader of the Year Award. Sallie worked as a floral designer at Germantown Flowers for many years before choosing to spend more time with her family. Sallie was very active in the community serving as a candy striper at Baptist Hospital, cooked dinner on Sundays for the residence at North Lake Community Center, delivered MIFA meals on wheels and volunteered at Casa Maria. The Red Hat Society was also a cherished part of her life. She had many hobbies such as knitting, crocheting, planting flowers (unbelievable green thumb) and watching humming birds. Sallie was a devout Catholic that never missed a Holy Day unless she or her husband got sick. She loved her church St. Francis of Assisi where among other things; she sang in the funeral choir and worked with the Sisters of the Good Shepard. She also volunteered for and supported St. Vincent DePaul Food Mission. Before joining St. Francis of Assisi, she was a member of the Church of the Ascension where she was commissioned as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharistic and volunteered for the food pantry. In her own words as of six years ago, “Bill and I truly love each other and know God had us in His plan. Bill is easygoing, a lot of fun and can be a stinker. Our favorite things are grandchildren basketball, reading the Bible and Karoke.” She leaves her loving husband of 22 years CDR William H. Bryant USN (ret) and her only child Pamela A. Allen to this world, along with Pam’s husband Mike and their children Michael and Robert. She also leaves “PJ” Bryant Walker and her husband Bobby and their children Julia and Beverly as well as Steve and Elizabeth Bryant and their children Brian, Ashley and Avory. Sallie’s loving sisters remaining are Minnie Beth Rutherford, Bobbie Jean Jackson, and Yvonne Jordan. Additionally, there are seven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews that will miss her dearly.The family will receive friends on Friday, November 13 from 10:00-11:30AM with the service to follow immediately. All services will be held at Memorial Park.The family requests that any memorials be sent to St. Vincent DePaul care of St. Francis of Assisi 8151 Chimneyrock Blvd Cordova, TN 38016.
