Ruth S. Thorsberg's Obituary
Ruth S. Thorsberg, 89, of Germantown, TN, passed away March 4, 2012. Ruth died peacefully at the Village at Germantown, where she had been a resident for several years. She belonged to the Germantown Church of Christ and her deep faith sustained her through a full life of family and civic contributions. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Arthur D. Thorsberg, Sr. Ruth was born in Texas, so Tennessee was her second favorite “T” state. She was a sweet soul who loved gardening and also helped rescue the Germantown Train Depot, now a well-preserved reminder of the city’s past. She helped guide the Heritage Women’s Club of Germantown, where she worked to raise money for college scholarships and the depot. If you ever attended the Germantown Festival, you saw Ruth herding youthful cyclists in the Wheel Parade. Her love of children and those in need ran deep. Ruth would be honored for any donations in her behalf to go to the Memphis Family Shelter (www.memphisfamilyshelter.org). Ruth is survived by her three sons, Arthur D. Thorsberg, Jr. (Tess), John Francis Thorsberg (Anne B. McDonald), and William A. Thorsberg (Mary) and four grandchildren, Michael Lavender (Moriah), Claire Grant, Hannah Grant, and Allen Grant (Stephanie). Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Thursday, March 8 and funeral services will be 11:30 a.m., Friday, March 9 — both at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119.
