Ruth Clifton's Obituary
Ruth Clifton, 91 of Memphis peacefully went home to be with the Lord on April 26, 2009. She was a beloved wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years Buford C. Clifton, Jr., her mother and father, Demetra and Ernest Ferguson, her brothers, Don and Dr. Murray Ferguson. Her survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Ken Nolen, son and daughter-in-law, Duane and Susan Clifton, granddaughter Danielle Liffin and her husband Michael, grandsons Michael Nolen, Robert Nolen, Ellis White and Duane B. Clifton and dear friends Sandy Collins, Janet Ellis, Grace Gordon and lifelong comrade, Virginia Holland. Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, April 30. Memorial Park Funeral Home has charge. She was a member of St. Luke’s Methodist Church, the Loyalty Sunday School Class, King’s Daughters and Opportunity Circle. She was a graduate of Memphis State University and held a Master’s degree in Library Service. Upon graduation in 1965, she served as a librarian for Memphis State University until her retirement in 1982. The family requests any memorials be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
