Royal Desmond Crider's Obituary
Royal Desmond (R.D., Des) Crider, 92, was born January 21, 1922 in Huntington, Tennessee and passed away on June 7, 2014. Mr. Crider retired as a Major from the U.S. Air Force Reserves. He joined the Army, moved to the Army Air Corp to become a bombardier on the B-29 before being discharged from active duty in 1945. He loved to fly, loved the Air Force and was a true patriot who was proud to have served his country. He also retired from the U.S. Regional Postal Service after 30 years of service. He shared his love for music with his family, playing the guitar as his family gathered and sang together over the years. He influenced his children and grandchildren to enjoy his love for music. Mr. Crider was a member of the Church of Christ.Mr. Crider was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Doris (Lewelling) Crider; his father, Homer Crider; and his mother, Ethel (Dunn) Crider. He was blessed and is survived by his wife and friend of 8 years, Esmond (Taylor) Crider; his three children, Randy (Martha) Crider of Fort Collins, CO; Russ (Siri) Crider of Aurora, CO; and Greta (Kevin) Richardson of Memphis; his siblings, Helen (Clyde) Milam of Louisville, KY; Marilyn (Leslie) Hillis of Nashville; Homer Dunn Crider of Memphis; and Richard Crider of South Fulton; also by his 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.A funeral service celebrating Mr. Crider’s life will be at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery on June 14, 2014 at 11:30 a.m., with visitation one hour prior.In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Lipscomb Yellow Ribbon Program, Attn: Veteran Services, 1 University Park Drive, Nashville, TN 37204.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, 901-767-8930, “Behind the Stone Wall”.
