Roy Kulp, Jr.'s Obituary
Roy Kulp, Jr. passed away at his home on Tuesday, November 6, 2012. Born on July 14, 1947, in Memphis, TN, Roy was a graduate of Central High School, Rhodes College, and the University of Tennessee Medical School. After completing medical school, Dr. Roy Kulp, Jr, trained in radiology at Methodist from 1976 through 1979 and was board certified. He was a loyal partner with Memphis Radiological Professional Corporation from 1979 until his retirement in 2005. Professional partners and everyone in the radiology department loved and admired him, as he was a true friend and brother. Roy’s hard work, gentle leadership, and compassionate smile and demeanor softened many hard days for patients and coworkers. Dr. Kulp mentored many residents during their training, several of whom were fortunate enough to become his partners. His dedication to his practice made him a member of the board of directors of his professional corporation, as well as radiology medical director at Methodist Hospital South. He helped to build the radiology department at Methodist Germantown and was the first radiology medical director at that facility. Roy, “Grandoc”, will always be remembered for his generous spirit, ability to make you laugh, and loving devotion to his family. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Roy Kulp Sr. and Elizabeth Wynne Kulp, and his aunt, Hester Wynne Griffin. He leaves behind his wife of 39 years, Kathryn Hollingsworth Kulp, his sons, David Wynne Kulp (Holly), Luke Hollingsworth Kulp (Holly), John Roy Kulp, and Paul Foster Townes Kulp, and grandchildren, James Wynne Kulp, Samuel Springer Kulp, Hannah Grace Presley, Kathryn Carter Kulp and Ruby Lea Kulp. Roy was a long time member of Independent Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Mercy Ministries of Independent Presbyterian Church 4738 Walnut Grove Road Memphis, TN 38117 or to a charity of your choice. Visitation will be in the Rotunda at Independent Presbyterian Church on Thursday, November 8 from 5-7 p.m. with a Memorial Service at Independent Presbyterian Church on Friday, November 9 at 12 Noon.
