Rose Sciara Vanelli's Obituary
Rose Sciara Vanelli, 87, passed away January 28, 2019. She is survived by her husband, Raoul Vanelli, children, Chris (Lisa), Daniel (Cindy), Phil, Charles, Thomas (Jennifer), Mary Margaret (John Paul), grandchildren, Matthew, Anthony (Mallary), Alison (Scott), David, Christina, Laura, Nicholas, Lydia, Mark and Vincent, great grandchildren, Olive and Karis, she also leaves a sister, Margaret Anne Jarred (Les).Rose was an wonderful person and an amazing wonderful wife and mother. Together she and Raoul raised six children, led the CYO at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, and ran a catering business. They were married for 60 years, sharing a strong love for the church, for family and for each other. Their later years brought Raoul to a nursing home, where Rose would visit him every evening so she could always be there to say good night. They started the CYO at OLPH because they had met at CYO, and wanted their children to also have a youth group where they could be with friends and grow in the church. During the 18 years she ran the CYO, she was “Mama” to hundreds of kids whom she would teach, guide, feed and love. Her children (and sometimes even their friends) were the employees of her catering business, and whenever people commented to the kids on how well they worked together, they were told “Well, Mama’s in charge and we just do what she tells us.” Family was everything to Rose, and anyone who knew her, knew that. For years the whole family would have Sunday dinner together, with Rose doing the cooking, of course. Even friends of the kids and grandkids loved to come on Sundays, and Rose never said no to more people around the dinner table. She was devoted to her 10 grandchildren, and was happiest when her house was full of kids and laughter. She spent countless hours with them, playing with play doh, sitting in plastic baby pools, eating pizza rolls, making spaghetti gravy, looking for our runaway dog, throwing wet rags at each other, eating spray cheese or spray butter or spray whipped cream, clipping hair clips on her fingers, practicing for First Communion with with Cheez-its, and of course, taking them to the “candy store” every week, which was really just the candy aisle at the gas station. Rose was also thrilled to have two beautiful great-granddaughters, whose small hugs and kisses always made her day.The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 30 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis, TN 38119 (901) 767-8930. “Celebrating Life… Behind the Stone Wall”. The funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, January 31 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help 8151 Poplar Ave, Germantown, TN 38138. Burial will follow the Funeral Mass in Southwoods Cemetery.
