Rose Hart's Obituary
ROSE GARIBALDI HART, age 96, passed away on October 19,2011. She was preceded in death in 1999 by her husband, Thomas B. Hart. They were married when he was a Lieutenant in the Air Force in WWII, 56 and a half years earlier. Her mother, Rose Garibaldi died in 1933 at an early age, but her father, Anthony Dominic Garibaldi lived with Bill (Thomas’ nickname) and Rose until he died at the age of 93. Her sister, Catherine Benjamin died in 1990 and Kitty’s husband, Lawrence in 2002. Thomas’ sister, Joyce and her husband, Robert Harrell also preceded her in death. Their daughter, Linda Harrell Bair, although living in Asheville, NC, was very close to her, very loving and helpful, visited often and found beautiful clothes for her in Asheville. Although at a distance, Linda kept a Geriatric Caregiver in Memphis under contract to help Rose in any way or emergency needed and to keep her, Linda, constantly apprised. Her husband’s cousins, Artie (Sue) McDowell of Clovis, NM, visited often and called every week. Ann (Roy) Sears of Grand Prairie, TX, another of Thomas’s cousins was also very close and called often. She was blessed to have an adopted family of friends, many of them from the summers she and Thomas spent at their house in the Smokey Mountains in Gatlinburg, TN. Some of the Memphis family helped her daily and the out of town ones called weekly and visited often to keep her from being lonely. She would like them to know she appreciated and treasured their love, kindness and prayers. Especially Nancy Tracy, her goddaughter, Maureen Walters, her very thoughtful next door neighbor, Joann and Rick Thornton, who helped her in so many ways for many years, and Kay and Gene Reeves who carefully restored all the pretty baubles that Rose broke. Carl, Linda and Christina Moran of Jacksonville, IL, friends from Gatlinburg days of about 20 years, who came for, and cared for, her beloved Westie, Zeke, when she could not, visited often, called her weekly and sent pictures of Zeke. Joe (Angie) Sutton of Newport, TN, who came twice a year to keep everything in ship shape condition so she could stay in her home, where she loved her flowers and her garden. Rose and Larry Benjamin of Bristol, IN, who called often and also shopped for her when they visited. Linda and Jim Pore of Berlin, OH, who were next door neighbors in Gatlinburg and kept in close touch as did also Alan Gribbins and Dick Halpin and Ken and Diann Simonis of Gatlinburg, TN. Rose graduated from Catholic High School in 1933 and received her Social Security Card the year it was started. She was working in the office of the Frisco Railroad at the time and was questioned often about the strange numbers RR cards received. She worked one year for Ford Motor Co. at the Long Beach, CA assembly plant office. She retired after 30 years from the Ford Parts Depot in Memphis and one of her friends there, Angie Feraci and her husband, Charles are very close and helpful. Angie brought her wonderful pasta and cannoli and Charles helped her with her computer. She was a communicant at St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Cordova and the funeral Mass will be there at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 24. She will be entombed in Memorial Park Mausoleum beside her husband. Visitation will be at the church for one hour prior to the funeral service. Any memorials can be of the donor’s choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, (901)767-8930, “Behind the Stone Wall”.
