Rosamond Irene Towles' Obituary
Our beloved mother, Rosamond Irene Towles, 95, left her physical pains behind to be with her Lord and Savior in the early morning hours of March 8, 2023 under the loving care of her children and staff of the Baptist Reynolds Hospice House of Collierville, Tennessee.
Rosamond was born in Steele, Missouri in 1927 to Robert Lee and Frances Louise (Haines) Burton.
Rosamond was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband Herman Edward Towles and by three of her siblings: Mary Neal Johnson, Edward (Eddie) Burton, and Betty Mae Whitaker.
Surviving are her devoted children: Herman Towles Jr (Dana), JoAnn Grierson Blakemore (Dennis), Susan Norsworthy (Shawn) and Keith Towles (Suzanne).
Left to cherish Rosamond’s memory are her seven grandchildren: Brian and Kevin Towles, Ron and Steven Grierson, Dean and Andrea Norsworthy, and Colby Towles; eight great grandchildren: Jenny and Ezekiel Towles, Grant, Levi and Millicent Towles, Jeremy and Shay Grierson, and William Towles; and one great, great grandchild Autumn Grierson.
Rosamond is also survived by her sister Frances Lou Hicks and brother Bobby Burton.
Rosamond was devoted to her family and worked hard to build a loving home for her husband and their four children. She was a wonderful cook and especially enjoyed creating amazing Sunday dinners. For special occasions she made a fantastic leg of lamb with gravy and always homemade yeast rolls. Every dinner featured a homemade dessert. She loved a slice of cake or a piece of pie with a cup of coffee after every evening meal.
Their first family home with Herman, Jr and JoAnn was a new house in Steele, Missouri custom designed by Herman Sr. In 1957 the family moved to Yuma, Arizona and the next year to Blissfield, Michigan where Susan and Keith were born. In 1964 they moved to Graceland in Memphis where all four children graduated from area high schools. (She loved the King of Rock and Roll – Elvis).
After her children were grown, Rosamond started a new career working at the Hallmark Shop in Southland Mall. She loved helping customers, arranging cards and building seasonal displays.
In 2001 Rosamond moved to Collierville to be closer to her daughter Susan and family. This physical closeness afforded her the great pleasure of watching her grandchildren (Dean, Andrea, Colby) grow up while attending many of their school, sporting and family activities.
During these years Rosamond continued to work for Hallmark in Oak Court Mall and Park Place Center. She finally retired from Hallmark at the age of 80! The new dilemma in “retirement” was filling her idle time. With a push from Susan, Rosamond began volunteering several days a week for 4 or 5 more years at the gift shop at the Collierville Baptist Hospital.
Every morning she pored over the Commercial Appeal before starting her day. She loved hosting card parties for her friends often with lunch and always with one of her homemade desserts. She especially enjoyed her Ladies Sunday school class at Collierville United Methodist Church, Senior Bingo and the many wonderful events held on the Collierville Town Square.
Rosamond kept an immaculate home and throughout her life, she loved decorating and creating crafts for her home, family and friends. In her 90s she created hundreds of handcrafted decorations for "the old folks" in assisted living centers around Collierville and became an avid jigsaw puzzle worker.
The visitation will be held 12:00 p.m. until the service time at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor and memory of Rosamond to the general fund of Collierville United Methodist Church (www.colliervilleumc.org), the American Lung Association (www.lung.org) or your favorite charity.
