Ronald Waring Porter's Obituary
Ronald Waring Porter, born September 14, 1944 in Black Oak, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Methodist Hospice House- Memphis. After growing up in Memphis and graduating from Central High School in 1962, Ron went on to have a successful career in Food Services. Ron loved his family and community and spent many years as a volunteer coach at Idlewild Presbyterian Church and as a youth mentor for the Juvenile Court. He was proceeded in death by his parents, John Robert Porter and Dorothy Williams Porter, and his youngest son, Eric Gentry Porter. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Dorris Gentry Porter, his son Ronald Waring Porter, Jr (Laurin) , his daughter Leigh Ann Porter Barrett (Bob), three grandchildren: Alex, Mary Grace and Drew Porter, and one brother John Robert Porter, Jr , as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home, Monday evening, February 4 , from 5:00 pm- 7:00 pm. The funeral will take place in the Riverside Chapel at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 5, at 11:30 am. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be sent to either the Recreation Ministry of Idlewild Presbyterian Church (1750 Union Avenue, Memphis 38104) or to the Mercy Ministry of All Saints Presbyterian Church (1726 Madison Avenue, Memphis 38104).
