So sorry to hear of your passing. You were always an inspiration to journalism students.
My heart is heavy hearing of this news. I am so very sorry. Robin, you both are in my prayers. He was an incredible man. I drove him crazy working w him at College Media Advisers, but he always took care of me. He would pack for the conventions chips, nuts and candy and I would take it out. He would get so mad at me. Then when he got there he would call and say, where’s the nuts and chips Gina? And I would say I didn’t know as I was eating them at my desk w you Robin and we would just laugh like crazy. I remember another time when our chairman (you know who u are) moved the copier right outside our office into our work room. I got so mad I went and told him about it. He had a fit. We had fun times that I will never forget. I will miss Ron Spielberger very much. You will never be forgotten.

I’ll always remember Ron Spielberger for two remarkable attributes. First, and most recognized among his peers, Ron had become what every mother wishes for her infant son. More than a gentleman, Ron was a gentle man; one of very few I’ve known over many years and a rarity in a world driven primarily by political correctness. Second, Ron’s memory was comparable to none, as evidenced by his unique filing system. Everything he expected to need appeared to be stacked at random over the top of what a seemingly disorderly desk. But Ron could reach out and retrieve documents at any moment with unerring accuracy. Among casual acquaintance, Ron probably was best known for his cluttered desk. Among colleagues and others who knew him well, Ron’s always warm demeanor and willingness to help with any problem under any and all circumstances were his outstanding characteristics. To say that Ron will be sorely missed would be gross understatement. His passing was a great loss to many and an even greater loss when viewed in context with the moral and ethical disaster which our contemporary world has become. Bill Brody
Ron was one of the finest people I’ve ever known. When I was a member of the Department of Journalism he always helped me in any way he could, and no matter what I asked him to do he was enthusiastic, and threw himself Jiminto it. Other people would sometimes quibble about things, but never Ron. He always had a smile on his face and a positive outlook. I often, when I was department chair, would go down to his office and talk to him, frequently seeking his advice on one thing or another. He was always there, and always had the best perspective on things. I was truly saddened by his passing. I’ve always said that the greatest achievement of any person is to have a positive influence on another traveler on life’s road. He had a positive influence on many, many of us. Here in Montana, I look out at the lake with a light snowfall drifting down and pray for my old friend and colleague and his family.Jim Redmond, Professor Emeritus (Department of Journalism 1993-2008)

Prof. Spielberger guided me through the journalism program back in the early 1980s. He set into motion standards that I use even today.I was suprised and pleased that he was there for my son as he finishes his degree this year!I hope this message is of some comfort because there were many others on which I’m sure he the same impression.
