Rolf Uwe Pludra's Obituary
Rolf Uwe Pludra, 77, was born in Magdeburg, Germany, which was in Communist East Germany at that time, to parents Ilse and Werner Pludra. At the age of 10 Rolf and his parents fled to Cologne, Germany where they enjoyed a life of freedom.
Influenced by his parents, who had become hairstylist, Rolf also obtained his license as a Master Barber and Cosmetologist and worked with them in their business. During this time Rolf became a well know and renowned hairstylist who won many awards and recognitions. At the age of 19, Rolf was recruited to the US by a business looking for International hairstylist. This interested Rolf, so he accepted this job and was sponsored to work in Houston, Texas, Dallas, Texas, and Atlanta, Georgia. Eventually in 1966 he was asked to come to Memphis, Tennessee. While in Memphis, Rolf met Linda and they were married for almost 56 years. Rolf became a US citizen and encouraged his parents, who also later became US citizens, to come to the US. When his father opened the Germantown Barber Shop in 1972 he joined him and remained there for over 50 years until this past June when he was unable to continue. Rolf enjoyed his work and loved all his customers. He would always greet them with a handshake and smile. He will be missed by all who was fortunate to have met and known him.
Rolf was of the Lutheran faith. He was very knowledgeable in history and was a very active and curious person who enjoyed many hobbies. Skiing, Ice Skating, Scuba Diving, Chess and Billiards were among his favorites. He also was a collector of things.... Antique cars, cameras, watches, model trains and whatever fascinated him. He was a member of the Billard Club of America, Mercedes Benz Club, PADI Scuba Diving Club, Chess Club and the Germania Club.
Rolf was preceded by his parents in death and is survived by his wife Linda, sister in laws Nancy Henley and Brenda Ledbetter. He also has many nieces and nephews who he loved and admired.
