I came to know Roger through our 4-H club in Carthage, Missouri, sometime in the 1950s. One of my favorite memories of Roger is our club square dances. Most of us boys were still scared of girls (mutual, I suppose) and it showed in how we conducted ourselves in the dances. Not Roger! I remember him enthusiastically bounding and joyfully galumphing about the floor, do-si-doing, alamanding and swinging his partner with complete abandon. His partner (who shall remain nameless) was the prissiest human I’ve ever met, and her horrified eye-rolling at being partnered with Roger is a living testament to me of God’s abundant sense of humor.I imagine that youthful exuberant spirit, that irrepressible joy, was Roger throughout his life, and I am grateful that Roger and I were able to reconnect through FB, even for the very short time that life gave us. Even as his body was failing, the Spirit was strong in him and it was blessing.Rest In Peace, Roger.
