Robin Leigh Maharrey Adams' Obituary
Robin Leigh Maharrey Adams passed away at her home on Sunday, May 28, 2023, after a heroic battle against pancreatic cancer. Robin was born on May 1, 1959, in Memphis Tennessee. Robin attended Memphis City Schools Avon Elementary and Richland Middle. Robin graduated from North Side High School in Jackson, Tennessee in 1977 where she played basketball for all four years and was a member of Delta Beta Sigma Sorority. She attended Jackson State Community College and University of Tennessee at Martin where she graduated in 1981 with a degree in Elementary Education. While at UTM, she was active in the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. After graduating from UTM, Robin taught at Grand Junction Elementary in Grand Junction, Tennessee and Larose Elementary and Idlewild Elementary in Memphis. Robin began working in Childcare Ministry at Germantown Baptist Church in 1994. She began teaching at GBC Week Day Preschool in 1999 and became Director of the Preschool in December 2018, then retired in September 2021.
Robin started attending Germantown Baptist Church in 1984. She has attended Highland Heights Baptist Church in Memphis, Tennessee, Inglewood Baptist Church in Jackson, Tennessee and First Baptist Church, Collierville, Tennessee. Robin loved her Germantown Baptist Church where she served in many ministries ranging from recreation softball and basketball, MOPS, Single Adults, Sunday School teacher, VBS teacher, Women’s Ministry leadership to various church committees.
Robin was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother called “Birdie” but above all a child of God. Robin loved watching all sports, but her greatest sports love was the Lady Vols.
Robin is preceded in death by her father, Jerry Wallace Maharrey. She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Greg; three children, Ann Kathryn Johnson and husband Drew, Andrew and wife Courtney, and Austin and wife Hannah; four grandchildren, Ruby Leigh Adams, Alexander Johnson, Charlotte Adams and Lillian Adams; sister, Karen Hoeschele; brother in law, Brent Adams and wife Jackie; four nieces, Alayna Brown and husband Clayton, Andrea MacMillan and husband Marc, Margot Byrd and husband Brandon, and Claire Hoeschele; great nieces and nephews, Landon Brown, Payton Brown, Colton Brown, Tanner Macmillan and Ava MacMillan.
The visitation will be Wednesday evening, May 31, from 5pm to 7pm at Memorial Park. Funeral Services will be Thursday afternoon, June 1, 2pm at Germantown Baptist Church will burial service following at Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory to the West Cancer Center Research Foundation.
