Robert Shroder's Obituary
SHRODER Robert Edward Shroder, 86, a native of Memphis, passed away on December 5, 2010 in Jacksonville, FL, with his daughter at his side. He was born to Joseph David Shroder and Hannah Louise Goltman Shroder on August 30, 1924, in Memphis, TN. He was the grandson of Max Goltman, a prominent physician and surgeon in Memphis. Mr. Shroder graduated from Central High School in 1942, and he attended Vanderbilt University until his acceptance as an Officer in the United States Navy. He served during WWII as a Naval Aviator. He was an alumnus of Tulane, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. During his tenure there, he affectionately became known as “Skinny Dugan” by his friends. Mr. Shroder also received a degree in mechanical engineering from Christian Brothers University. After graduation from CBU he worked for International Harvester, a job that he remembered fondly. He later worked as a Safety Engineer for the Corp of Engineers until his retirement. Since early childhood he was an avid golfer, and he became famous at the tender young age of 3 by being named the youngest golfer in Memphis by the local paper. In 1949 he won the Ridgeway Golf Championship, an accomplishment he cherished. He was preceded in death by his sister, Joanne Shroder Wolf Brod, and his brother, Joseph David Shroder. He leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Terry Fisher Shroder, and 3 children: daughter Clare S. Geleta and her husband Peter D. Geleta of Kennett Square, PA; son Robert E. Shroder Jr. and his wife Cindy L. Shroder of Tucson, AZ; daughter Dr. Susan S. Moore and her husband Michael E. Moore of Jacksonville, FL; and 9 grandchildren. The funeral service will be held Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 2:30 in the afternoon at Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis with interment immediately afterward. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made in memory of Robert to Community Hospice of Jacksonville, FL.
