I met Robert in the summer of 2012, and from that moment, I have been both a friend and an admirer. He was the person who inspired me to take up cycling, and I’ll never forget our exhilarating conversations about film, art, and philosophy. We bonded over a shared reverence for the film There Will Be Blood—I recently re-watched it in honor of him.
Robert was brilliant, talented, reflective, and original. He encouraged me to live life on my own terms and to care less about the opinions of others. He was sharp, compassionate, witty, and endlessly creative. And his taste was impeccable! In music, in literature, in all things, really.
I will always remember the example he set—of courage, curiosity, and authenticity—and will carry those lessons forward for the rest of my life. Thank you, Robert. I will never forget you.

What a fierce competitor Robert was! Herbert Thomas nicknamed Robert as “Blood & Guts”because of his toughness. He brought this same toughness in his eight year battle with cancer. The years of Dragon soccer seemed to bring us all together as one big family. Such wonderful memories. Robert will be so missed ❤️
Sending healing thoughts and prayers to the entire Rowan family. May your strength grow each day. May your every memory of Robert soon bring more smiles than tears. Big hugs Susan❣️. God speed🙏🏾💐. Rest on, Robert🪽🪽

I first spotted Robert at infusion clinic in Nashville at Sarah Cannon Csncer Center. We met eyes in the hallway and smiled at each other. My sister & I later met Robert and mother, Susan at The Hope zlodge (Nashville). We built a connection with Susan. Even after parting , we always checked on Robert.
Reading the obituary and other comments, it’s quite clear, Robert had a life well lived. He was loved and supported but also very supportive of others. It’s great to know he’d given much to others.
Our sincerest condolences to the Rowan family during this very challenging season. May you grow in strength each day and May every thought of Robert begin to bring more smiles than tears❣️God speed 🙏🏾💐. Hugs to you Susan💞

Robert’s late nights often coincided with my late nights. Watching storms roll in over the river was something that my dad and I used to do. I loved our virtual chats late at night. He’ll be missed.
One of Robert’s visits to Houston for treatment brought him driving distance from my house in baytown, tx. It was my oldest daughter’s birthday, so my mom was in town. Robert came for the family birthday party. I can only imagine from pics and seeing him with my kids that he was an amazing uncle. Robert came in the house and introduced himself as “honorary” uncle since their uncle Phil was not able to travel. Robert played chess with my kids and we got to catch up. Best memory of him. Sending love to y’all. PS That kid’s headed to college next month studying mechanical engineering.
