Robert "Robby" Owen Hyde's Obituary
Robert ‘Robby’ Owen Hyde, Jr. plummeted to earth in Memphis, TN on July 1, 1955, and passed away from this planet on July 5, 2022 at the age of 67.
Robby was a 1973 graduate of Wooddale High School and was a member of the football team and voted wittiest in his graduating class. He had an absolutely beautiful voice and upon graduation, toured with the singing group, Up with People throughout the US and Europe. He was a member of the Southern Opera Company and he won several opera competitions. He graduated from State Tech with an associate’s degree in Biomedical Engineering.
He is survived by his daughter, Layna Michalik (Sam) and three grandchildren (Vera, Hyde and John Reid); his mother, Shirley Shea; sister, Susan Scaperotto (Chuck); brothers, Mark Hyde (Lori) and Murphree Hyde.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Veronica Rich Hyde; fathers, Robert Owen Hyde, Sr. and Paul Shea; grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Walker Hyde and Mr. & Mrs. Roland Murphree. Additionally he leaves many loving nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Friday, July 8 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, July 9 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be sent to Memphis Music Initiative, 198 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue or any other charitable music organization.
