Robert Benson Paullus' Obituary
Robert Benson Paullus passed away November 1, 2016 at the age of 90. He was born in Memphis, one of eight children. He grew up across the street from Guthrie Park and Dave Wells Community Center, where he developed a love of athletics, becoming the fastest softball pitcher in Memphis. During WWII he served in the Navy on the oil tanker in the Persian Gulf. After his discharge he attended Memphis State University for two years and then went to work at First Tennessee Bank in the Building Department. He retired after 40 years there, but for 10 more years was called to return for special jobs. He was skilled in construction, furniture making, and repair; filling the homes he built with useful and beautiful pieces. Mr. Paullus was married to Barbara Pinckney Paullus for over 61 happy years. They were blessed with one son, Robert Benson Paullus, Jr, who predeceased them. He was a member of First Evangelical Church for 57 years, where he served with Christian Service Brigade and taught Sunday School in the Beginner Department for over 14 years. A Christian since boyhood, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather to his four grandchildren, Ben, Kelly, Sarah, and Caleb Paullus of Olive Branch, Mississippi. He lived a life of service to others. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis TN 38119.
