Robert E. Palmer's Obituary
Robert Evander Palmer, IV, M.D. (March 12, 1936-February 1, 2015) Dr. Robert Palmer was a Radiation Therapist with Mid-South Imaging & Therapeutics, PA for 24 years. His residency was completed at the Methodist Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee and his fellowship in radiation oncology was completed at MD Anderson in Houston, Texas. He was a 50 year member of the Memphis Medical Society and was also an active member of the America Society of Therapeutic Radiologists. He was a very dedicated doctor who cared greatly for his patients. Dr. Palmer is also a veteran of the United States Navy.Preceded in death by his mother Jane McComb Palmer, and his father, Robert Evander Palmer, III. He leaves behind his wife, Geneva Sue Cole Palmer of 37 years as well as his son, Robert Evander Palmer, V, of Memphis, Tennessee, and spouse, Betty Hipp Palmer and his grandchildren: Robert Evander Palmer, VI, Sarah Palmer, Jimmy Palmer, David Palmer, and Virgie Palmer. He also leaves his daughter, Mary Jane Palmer, of Olive Branch, Mississippi, and her spouse, Lisa Chase. His stepson, whom he considered a son, Marshall Cates, and spouse Debby Cates, and his grandchildren, Dalton Marshall Cates, and Bailey Palmer Cates. His sister, Susan Palmer Bayless, of Marietta, Georgia, and spouse, Arthur Bayless and their children: Palmer Bayless and spouse Trudi Bayless, and their children, Emily and Ansley Bayless; and Lucille Bayless Heil and her children, Mason Heil and Baylee Heil. His uncle, Marvin Holder Palmer and spouse Ann Ward Palmer, and their children, Marvin Palmer, Virginia Palmer, and John Palmer. His sister-in-law, Sarah Cole Russell and her children: Darrell Russell, Sheila Russell Vermeulen, and her daughter, Libby Vermeulen. His brother-in-law, Jim Cole, and his spouse, Bonita Cole, and their children, Bob Cole and his spouse Donna Cole, Tim Cole and his spouse, Leigh Ann Cole, Jimmy Cole, Royce Cole, and Jonathan Hawkins, and his wife Anna Hawkins. He also leaves 2 nephews, Mike Rudd and Len Rudd and two nieces, Arlana Brown and Toni Brown Nelson. In addition he leaves many great nieces and great nephews and many close and wonderful friends.The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 7, 2015 from 1:30-2:30PM with a celebration of life to immediately follow. All services will be held at Memorial Park.In lieu of flowers: the family requests that donations in his name be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Church Health Center in Memphis, or the Tunica Humane Society.
