Robert Edward Murray's Obituary
Dr. Robert Edward Murray, 73, of Germantown, TN passed away December 4, 2016. Born October 25, 1943 in New Haven, Connecticut, Bob was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend and surrogate grandfather to many. He leaves behind his wife, Bettye Murray, his four children Jeff Murray, Lynn Murray, Pamela Atkins and Scott Atkins, his three grandchildren Peter Murray, Conner Murray and Emma Grace Atkins and his brother Craig Murray. He is preceded in death by his twin brother Michael Murray. He began his career with a PhD in Microbiology and then earned an MD in Internal Medicine. He then completed an internship in Psychiatry, where he found his true calling. In addition to his private practice in Memphis and Nashville, he was the Medical Director of Foundations Recovery/La Paloma’s Outpatient Center in Memphis. He was previously the Medical Director at Charleston Charter Hospital in South Carolina, The Meadows in Phoenix, and Cumberland Heights in Nashville. A dedicated doctor, he cared so very deeply for his patients and students and worked tirelessly to enrich their lives. He had an intense thirst for knowledge and never stopped learning. He also had a passionate interest in his family, ancestry and genetics, as well as the rare combination of profound intelligence, humor and humbleness. He is loved and admired by all who had the good fortune to know him, and he will be remembered and dearly missed as a truly remarkable person who touched the lives of so many. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Saturday, December 10 at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery.
