Robert McKinnon's Obituary
Robert (Bob) Norman McKinnon was born in Memphis on November 19, 1929 to Erlene and Norman McKinnon. After his father’s death in 1935, Bob moved to Fulton, KY along with his mother and brother John. He graduated from Fulton High School in 1948 and soon thereafter joined the US Navy. He served in Jacksonville, FL with a fighter squadron after attending school in Millington, TN. He served his last 3 years as a Flight Engineer with Airship Devron 11, ZX-11. In August 1951, he married Norma Jane Willey of Fulton, KY. After his Naval discharge, Bob moved to Memphis and worked with MLGW for 17 years and then for White Stone Co as a Plant Manager for 10 years. He joined the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department and was co-owner of Swimming Pools of Memphis. Bob retired from Shelby Co as a Traffic Commander. He moved to Olive Branch Plantation Golf Course in 2006, where he enjoyed his neighbors and Norma was able to enjoy her favorite sport of golf. After 56 happy years with Bob, Norma passed away in April of 2007. Bob spent his last years at Trezevant Retirement Community in Memphis where he enjoyed his many friends and neighbors and where he passed away Tuesday evening, January 8. Bob is survived by his two daughters, Sandra McKinnon and Pamela McKinnon Hill, son-in-law David Hill, granddaughters Natalie Hill Cerpa and Rebekah Hill, grandsons Tom Hill, Sean Chandler, and Jacob Williamson and great-granddaughter Lois McKinnon Hill. Visitation will be at Second Presbyterian in the Salmon Room on Tuesday, January 15 1pm and the Service will follow at 2pm in the Chapel.
