Robert Walker Hawks' Obituary
Robert Walker Hawks, age 82, passed away in his sleep on September 24, 2025 at The Highlands Health & Rehab Nursing Home in Memphis. He was born in Trenton, Tennessee to the late Robert T. Hawks and Evelyn Walker Hawks.
His family moved to Union City, Tennessee in his teens where he attended UC High School, graduating in 1962. Robert moved to Memphis to attend Memphis State University. He earned a Bachelor's Degree of Science and Engineering Technology on August 23, 1969. In recent years Robert was honored by the Herff College of Engineering for his accomplishments in his working career, from the now University of Memphis.
Focusing on commercial construction, he served on many jobs around Memphis as the Project Engineer and Superintendent of Construction, including the Mall of Memphis and the Raleigh Springs Mall. He was a long-time member of Idlewild Presbyterian Church. Organizations that he was devoted to included, Masonic Lodge #95, Cotton Carnival Krewe Ennead, Scottish Society of Memphis, Knights Templar and the Sons of Confederate Veterans. Robert also served as a volunteer, with the rank of Captain in the Tennessee State Guard, Corps of Engineers for many years.
Robert was very passionate about his Scottish heritage. He had an extensive library of books on Scotland and studied the Clans and their family tartans. He received a certification as a tartan expert. With fellow members of the Scottish Society he attended the Scottish Games once a year in North Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia.
Robert Walker Hawks is being laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis on Monday September 29, 2025 at 1:30 p.m. At his instructions this will be a graveside service only. Friends are welcome.
