Robert Michael Hamric's Obituary
Robert Michael “Mike” Hamric, 73, passed away on June 20, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication and devotion to his family, friends and community.
Born on September 18, 1952, in Owensboro, Kentucky. Mike was the son of Dorothy and Edward Hamric and later the stepson of Thomas Dickinson. Mike was raised with a strong sense of family, integrity and hard work that would guide him throughout his life.
Mike graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1973, with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting. While at Ole Miss, he was a proud member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity and had a lifelong passion and fascination for the university and its athletic programs.
On February 4, 1983, Mike married Suzan Babcock, in Hernando, MS. Together they shared more than forty-three years of marriage and built a family rooted in love and resilience.
Mike and Suzan were blessed with two incredible daughters Nicole Suzanne and Kimberly Anne. They were the joys and masterpieces of his life. In November, 2003, the family suffered the heartbreaking loss of Niki after her heroic battle of cancer. Her courage and strength remained an inspiration to Mike throughout his life and in his own battle with cancer.
Mike took immense pride in his daughter Kimberly Anne, who married Kevin Cole of Madison, MS. One of the greatest joys of his life was being a grandfather to Emmett and Leo Cole. He cherished every opportunity to spend time with them and celebrate their accomplishments.
A respected banking executive, Mike, began his career in banking with First Tennessee in Audit. He later worked at Union Planters and eventually served as Vice President and Comptroller of National Bank of Commerce over the Merchant Services Area. Mike was an instrumental player in the beginning of EFS National Bank and their STAR Network System which he helped develop. He eventually returned to First Horizon Bank and was a Director in Audit. Following his retirement from banking, he continued to share his expertise by working part-time with Bambu, a financial technology company.
Outside of work, Mike’s greatest passion was golf. Mike did make a hole-in-one at Deerfield Country Club, and although he was really excited about it, I was not. He was traveling for work and just stopped in Canton, MS for a short round of golf. I lived in fear of his boss finding out about it. He enjoyed many years as a member of Colonial Country Club and Old Waverly Golf Club, where he formed lasting friendships and created countless memories. He also was a private pilot and had obtained his multi-engine rating all of this in honor of his Dad and Tom. He was also a substitute pilot for the Union Planter’s Corporate jet which he in flew in order to gain pilot hours and for fun.
Mike was preceded in death by his daughter Nicole Suzanne Kay, his parents, Dorothy and Edward Hamric, his step-father, Thomas, and his brother, Willam Love “Bill” Hamric.
He is survived by his wife, Suzan Babcock Hamric, his cherished daughter and son-in-law Kimberly Anne Cole and Kevin Cole, his incredible grandsons, Emmett and Leo Cole; his brother Steven Hamric and wife Janice, his niece, Christi, his great-niece Justice; and many other relatives, friends, colleagues, and fellow Rebels who will miss him dearly.
Mike will be remembered for his intelligence, integrity, kindness, quick wit, and steadfast loyalty. He was a rebel in his own way, and so it was only fitting that he remained an Ole Miss Rebel throughout his lifetime. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. His love for family, golf, Ole Miss, and the many friendships he cultivated throughout his life defined a life well lived.
Though he is gone from our sight, Mike’s spirit and grit lives on in the memories he created, the values he instilled, and the love he shared with everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Determining how he will be honored as his passing has been incredibly difficult with this cancer diagnosis. We hope one day there will be better methods to fight this vicious disease. His funeral date is still undecided and updates will be available at this website “memorial https://parkfuneralandcemetary.com”. Please keep us in your prayers as we are leaning toward a family-oriented memorial graveside ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in memory of Robert Michael “Mike” Hamric to the American Cancer Society, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to the University of Ole Miss.
