Robert E Halfacre's Obituary
Robert E. Halfacre, 81,of Collierville died Friday, April 3, 2009, at Baptist Hospital after a brief illness. Mr. Halfacre was born in Overton County, Tennessee, July 24, 1927. He spent his youth in Jackson, Tennessee where he met and married his wife of 56 years Betsy Grubbs Halfacre. He attended Jackson High School and Union University. He has been a resident of the Memphis area for 53 years.Mr. Halfacre served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was the founder of Memphis Ice Machine Company and was a long time member of The Variety Club of Memphis were he served as a past Chief Barker. Mr. Halfacre was a proud sponsor of the University of Memphis and an avid fan of Collierville High School athletics.Mr. Halfacre was preceded in death by his parents, Hank and Eula Halfacre, his two brothers Carl Ray Halfacre and Hank Halfacre, Jr., and his grandson Robert Andrew Lawrence. In addition to his wife Betsy, he leaves a sister Judy Ernst of Brentwood, Tennessee and a brother Donald Halfacre of Roy, Utah. He also leaves two sons, Robert Halfacre, Jr. (Julie), Jeffery Halfacre (Tamah), and a daughter Betsy Friedl (Bob). He also leaves his grandchildren James, Holly, Laine, Harper and Mary Lennox Halfacre, Clark Lawrence, and Adam and Josh Friedl. Mr. Halfacre also leaves many nieces and nephews, and friends.Anyone who was blessed enough to know Robert Halfacre was indeed blessed. The family will receive visitors beginning at 1:00 pm Monday at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Services will be Monday, April 6 at 2:30 pm at Memorial Park Funeral home with burial in Magnolia Cemetery in Collierville. The family requests any memorial gifts be made to The Variety Club of Memphis or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
