Stanley Stanley (Friend)
I wish I still had some of those old Polaroid photos of me and Schultz as young Marines, but over the years, with all the moving, it’s like socks in a dryer, where did they go? For several years, when we were teenagers, Shultz and I, we spent most every day together, until Shultz joined The Marine Corps.
I will never forget the times we spent playing pool all night, until four, five or six in the morning. On one occasion, after playing pool all nigh, and until six in the morning, at Funland Pool Hall in Whitehaven, Shultz walked out of Funland, went next door to the Armed Forces Recruiting Offices, sat down next to door, and said, the first recruiter to show up, whatever branch of military they are in, that’s the branch I’m going to join. Well, he joined the Marines, and in a few days, I think it was only three day, he was leaving to Recruit Depot Paris Island.
When Shultz came home, and I saw Shultz in his dress uniform, I said, I have got to have me some of those. Shultz inspired me to join the Marine Corps, and he even helped me through the process. He was a great guy to be around, and you couldn’t fine an easier person to talk to, or someone you would rather sit down and chat with. I will miss stopping by to see him when I come home to visiting my family.
Schultz was a great man, with a great wife, and it’s evident when you meet his and Lois’ children. Shultz, you will be greatly missed, my friend, by all who knew you. Semper Fi, Marine, until we meet again!
