Robert "Bob" Jeffrey Lindemann's Obituary
Robert (Bob) Jeffrey Lindemann, 77, died at his home in Memphis, TN the weekend of July 26th, 2025.
Bob was born in Esopus, NY to Marjorie Joy and Robert James Lindemann, and later became a big brother to his sisters Gail and Laurie.
He attended college in Fredonia, NY before enlisting in the Army, where he was stationed at Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn, NY. Bob lived in New York City for several years with his second wife Lois and son Jeremy before his work in hospitality soap manufacturing moved them to New Jersey, Ohio, and finally Memphis, TN. By then, another son (Jamie) and daughter (Katie) were also a part of their growing family.
Bob was an avid enthusiast of the arts. He had been a music major in school and performed in various choral groups over the years, including the Memphis Symphony Chorus. He also took part in local productions of South Pacific and Annie, where he notably shaved his head for the role of Daddy Warbucks. His study at home was always full of playbills from various musicals as well as hundreds of tapes, records, and CDs, all of which helped to instill within his children an appreciation of a wide variety of genres and styles. Bob was always taking his family to museums, galleries, and shows, broadening their horizons together.
He was also a voracious reader, and had files brimming with index cards listing the myriad books he'd read over the decades, and he always had a book (or several) nearby. In his later years, he devoted time to his beloved grandchildren by reading to them on video calls and asking what series they were reading. Bob could also always be found watching professional sports on TV or listening to them on the radio while researching his latest topic of interest or a new recipe to cook for himself and Lois.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Joy and Robert, and his brother-in-law Michael Baker. He is survived by his sisters Gail (Sam) and Laurie, his children Jeff Lowell (Amy), Jeremy (Sam), Jamie (Alli) and Katie (Jordan), his grandchildren Chloe, Cooper, Dasche, Elisa and Eva, along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Bob was selflessly devoted to his wife Lois for 50 years. They were preparing to move out of Memphis to spend the rest of their retirement surrounded by family. Lois passed less than two months after Bob, unwilling to leave his side even in the afterlife.
Celebration of Life event for friends and family in Fort Myers, Florida on Saturday, July 25th from 1:00-3:00 PM in the Iona House at the Calusa Nature Center & Planetarium, 3450 Ortiz Ave, Fort Myers, FL 33905. for both Bob and Lois, as per their wishes, as it was the setting of so many of their favorite summer vacations as a family over the years.
Donations in Bob's memory may be sent to the Memphis Symphony Chorus, the Memphis Symphony Orchestra, and the Memphis Public Libraries.
