Robert Michael Baker's Obituary
Robert “Bobby” Michael Baker, age 77, passed away on January 25, 2023. He was born in Memphis, TN on January 5, 1946, to parents Robert Byron and Carrie Johnson Baker. He graduated from Central High School in 1965. He attended Memphis State Technical Institute for Computer Science and Memphis State University for Business Administration. He worked at FedEx as a Senior Programing Analyst and retired in 2010.
He served two years (1966-1968) in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War where he was wounded in action. Sergeant Baker was recognized and awarded the Purple Heart merit in 1968.
Bobby was a proud life member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and Veterans of Foreign Wars. In 1995, he joined the VFW Post 4313 in Cordova and held positions such as the district 10 Commander in 2001-2002 and 2010-2011 and as an All-State Team District Commander from 2010-2011. He served on the Advisory Board of Directors for the West Tennessee Veteran Cemetery. In addition, he was a member of the Military Order for the Cootie (MOC) in 2017-2018, the American Legion, and Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
Bobby was preceded in death by both of his parents, Robert and Carrie Baker. He is survived by his wife, Tina Baker, daughters Robyn (Todd) Mastry and Stef (Eric) Sichta, grandchildren Taylor, Tyler, and Trace, sister Linda (Bruce) Baskette, and niece Dawn (Brian) Harper.
Visitation will take place on Monday, February 6th from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 7th at 11:00 a.m. at the West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.
