Robert (Bob) Arlie Metheny's Obituary
Robert (Bob) Arlie Metheny, passed away January 2, 2010 after a year-long illness, at the age of 54. He dealt with his illness with courage, grace, and humor. Bob was born in Zama, Japan on August 29, 1955. He was the seventh of seven sons of Arlie and Willie Strobel Metheny. He followed the tradition that his father and four brothers set by proudly serving in the United States Army. Bob began his professional career in banking in Fort Smith, Arkansas and worked for over 30 years in the financial services in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Central Florida. He was the Senior Vice President of Investment Services at the Independant Banker’s Bank of Florida. Bob was an avid tennis player and photographer. He loved the water, and most enjoyed spending time fishing, waterskiing, and relaxing at the beach or in the pool with his family and friends. Bob is survived by his wife, Frances, of Sanford, FL; daughter, Kate Hanney, of Memphis, TN; son, Frank Hanney (Kelly); and granddaughter, Violet Hanney, of Queen Creek, AZ; brothers, Bill Metheny (Dixie) of Bridger, MT; Gary Metheny (Dianne) of Conway, AR; Jim Metheny of Conway, AR; nieces, Melissa Hays (Jim) of Conway, AR, and Michele Quick (Chris) of Chantilly, VA; nephews, Ray Metheny (Paulette) of Vilonia, AR, David Metheny (Kelley) of Conway, AR, and Donald Metheny (Sabine) of Aurora, IN; as well as several grand-nieces and grand-nephews. A celebration of Bob’s life will be held Saturday,January 9, 2010 at 1:00 p.m., at Memorial Park Funeral Home in Memphis. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
