Robert "Buck" Arata's Obituary
Robert “Buck” Arata, 96, of Memphis, passed away on Wednesday, May 2nd, 2018. He was preceded in death by his wife, Darthy Arata, parents, Carrie and Robert Arata and two siblings, Dorothy Cole and Marion Strem. Buck is survived by his daughter, Vickey Headley, three grandchildren, David Headley (Kim), Justin Headley (Amber) and Barrett Headley (Kristina), ten great-grandchildren and nine siblings, Helen Spruill, Aggie Stocks, Mary Ashton, Theresa McNamara, Merrill “Sonny” Arata, William Arata, Patrick Arata, Margaret Steele and Marian Stampley. Private First Class Arata served proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII in Iwo Jima and Guam. He was a Purple Heart recipient. Buck participated in the Forever Young organization and often volunteered at his local VFW. He was a member of Eastside Baptist Church, a Mason and retired from Buckeye Cotton. The family would like to thank the staff and caretakers at Applingwood Healthcare and Crossroads Hospice for their dedication and compassion. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 9th from 5-8pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Avenue in Memphis. The funeral will be held on Thursday, May 10th at 1pm also at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made in Buck’s name to Forever Young Senior Veterans, 185 S. Center St. Suite 110, Collierville, TN. 38017.
