Ricky "Slick Rick" Buchanan's Obituary
In a tragic turn of events, the Memphis music scene lost a prominent figure. Ricky “Slick Rick” Buchanan, a beloved DJ widely known for his influential presence, was discovered dead at his residence in Memphis. He was 59 years old at the time of his untimely demise.
Slick Rick was more than just a DJ; he was a musical storyteller, spinning tunes that resonated with countless listeners. His eclectic mixes bridged genres, bringing people together on dance floors across the city, but especially at The Stage Stop where he was the resident DJ. He was also a champion of local music and tirelessly promoted the Memphis music scene.
Born on October 15, 1964, Ricky Lynn Buchanan grew up surrounded by the soulful sounds of the Mississippi Delta. When he was not working as a DJ, he spent his time fulfilling his other passion as a personal trainer. Ricky went hard in everything he did, whether it was helping people better their lives through working out, or training himself during his annual trips to Hawaii before competing in mountain bike races. He loved the outdoors and rarely went anywhere without his dog, Lucky.
Offstage, Slick Rick was known for his warm smile, infectious laughter, and genuine kindness. He treated everyone like family, whether they were fellow musicians, fans, or strangers he met on the street. His generosity knew no bounds, and he often used his platform to raise awareness for local charities and people in need.
Memphis mourns the loss of a true icon. Slick Rick’s beats may have faded, but his spirit lives on in the hearts of those who danced to his rhythm. As the city gathers to celebrate his life, we remember the man behind the music—a legend who made us move, groove, and feel alive.
Rest in beats, Slick Rick. Your legacy echoes through the streets of Memphis, forever intertwined with the soul of the Bluff City.
