Richard Michael Smith's Obituary
Richard Michael Smith was born and raised in Memphis, TN and was the child of Richard Smith and Frances “Sally” Smith. He grew up with a passion for football, the Tennessee Vols, Dallas Cowboys, BBQ and hiking. In his professional life, Mike was a courier at FedEx for more than 20 years. He later got his bachelor’s degree from Union University and went on to work for the City of Memphis as an inspector. He was a Reserve officer for the Memphis Police Department in the 1990’s.
In his free time, he went to the gym, made delicious meals for himself and spent time with friends. During the holidays, he would volunteer at the soup kitchen. His Christian faith was a central part of his life, and he strived every day to walk in the light of the Lord. His generosity knew no bounds with his willingness to act immediately to help out anyone in need.
Mike’s heart of gold shined throughout his personal and professional life and there is not a person who met him who didn't feel his love and laughter. He was the type of person who “never met a stranger” and many have fond memories of his courier days when he delivered a package, a smile and a listening ear.
Most importantly, Mike’s family was his greatest achievement. He shared a daughter, Rebecca Suiter (husband Phil), with his first wife Nancy.
He loved spending countless hours with his grandchildren, Emilia and Eleanor (Suiter).
His sister, Debra Kinsley, was his confidante, whom he loved very much.
