Richard "Rick" James Singler's Obituary
In his 65 years Richard (Rick) James Singler lived life to the fullest. He was married to his beautiful wife, Cynthia for 23 years. Her love and deep care sustained him in life and gave him hope. He was blessed to have three children, Jenifer, Matt and Katie, and further blessed by his stepchildren, Jenny and Joseph. The gift of his grandson, Brady, was another source of endless joy, as were grandsons Rook and Charles.
Rick was born on October 31, 1956 to Margaret Elizabeth and Ralph Joseph Singler. He was the youngest of four and brother to CJ, Bill, and Joe. After a brave and long fight, he passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 10, 2022.
Rick truly never met a stranger. He loved cars and especially loved having a new car. His negotiation skills left car salesman stunned. He was insatiably curious. He wanted to know how people thought, how things work, and why things were the way they were. He loved life, loved people, and was truly a kid at heart.
He was an awesome salesman. He could sell a pile of, well, let’s just say he could sell ice to an Eskimo. The pinnacle of his career in sales was his award as the top salesman of his recruiting class at All State.
He loved talking to people, helping people, and knowing what mattered to them. His love of sales took him on trips all over the country. He was worried about leaving his wife, Cynthia, while away on business so he found the perfect companion for her, Bo! Bo was a wire haired dachshund, always devoted to them and grateful to have their love.
He was always so prideful of and grateful for his children. Words cannot express how proud he was of Jenifer’s strength and grace. Her valiant fight filled his heart with deep love and admiration. He would just beam when he talked about Matt and Katie. He and Matt shared a special bond and had lively discussions about sports, teams and athletes. Rick bragged about him whenever he had the chance. To say the apple does not fall far from the tree is an understatement as he and Katie had lively conversations, each matching the others level of sarcasm. He was very protective of her and beamed with pride when he talked about her. His love for Joseph and his wife Melanie and Jenny and her husband Haden was expressed each time he bragged about them as well.
He adored his Grandson, Brady. From the day he was born, Rick was always so excited when he talked about Brady. Kindhearted, an excellent athlete and fastidious student, Brady was recruited by The Brothers’ Purple Wave football coach, and Rick could not wait to watch him play for CBHS. Though he was not able to attend many of Rook’s soccer matches and Charles’s baseball games, he loved hearing about them.
He was a sharp dresser and not afraid to show his style. He enjoyed cooking and grilling and when he did, it was memorable. He loved fine scotch, good beer and Riesling and could describe the tastes with clarity and finesse. He enjoyed listening to Motown music, especially on road trips, and anything by Adele. He enjoyed talking about his passions and shared many wonderful conversations with his Uncle Alvin.
His strength and resolve leaves us speechless as he faced adversity in his later years. He made all of his nurses and doctors laugh and walk away inspired after caring for him. He was devoted to Cynthia beyond measure and knew how fortunate he was to have her in his life and her loving care for him.
In addition to leaving us all with his inspiring strength, resolve and wit he leaves behind his brothers Bill (Patty) and Joe (Cory), his children Matt and Katie, Joseph, Jenny, grandsons Brady, Rook and Charles, nieces and nephews, many friends and his beloved wife, Cynthia! We take comfort knowing he is in heaven with Jenifer and playing an occasional round of golf.
Thanks to the beautiful care St Jude gave to Jenifer, if you are so inclined, the family would be honored by a donation in his name.
The family will receive guests on Thursday, March 17, 2022 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Memorial Park Funeral Home at 5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis TN 38119.
