Dr. Richard (Rich) Warren Powell, age 77, of Germantown, TN passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, July 3, 2025. He was the son of Russell and Marie Powell, and was raised in Newton and Des Moines, IA where he attended No Read Obituary
Our family grew up next door to the Powell's on Mondamin. Although Richard was older than all of us, I remember him being kind with quite a bit of teasing to go along with it. Our condolences to Richard's family, Becky, and Tom, and all extended family members. ❤️

Growing up with Erica as my best friend, I was honored to have known Richard through out my life. I knew from the get go he was a very unique, intelligent, and kind person. Our conversations never felt mundane or surface. He genuinely cared about what I had to say or whatever we were engaging over. Richard always felt safe in a world that didn’t. Richard was Erica’s best friend, in a lot of ways an idol, and an amazing father figure. I will always remember him as that amazing father figure, a witty man who wrote books, and a soul who loved to sail.
I met Mr. Powell through a Facebook writers' group. I got to review some of his work. Very talented writer. My condolences.
Rich and I met on a mutual music group on Facebook, The Group That Loves Music But Has Yet To Be Named. It's a fun music loving environment. Rich was always quick to share some humor. I would say our tastes in humor were quite compatible. I am wowed by the news of Rich's passing, like it blew in with the thunderstorms and took Rich with them, and left a human void for us who knew him. May your spirit walk in peace Rich.
