Richard Lee "Dick" White's Obituary
Richard Lee “Dick” White, 93, passed away May 31, 2016. Mr White came to Memphis in 1927 from Hamilton, Ohio, where he was born, with his parents, Leo J. White and Thelma Siler White. He attended St. Thomas Elementary School and Christian Brothers High School, graduating in 1941. He attended Christian Brothers Jr. College and graduated in 1943. He then entered the University of Tennessee Knoxville and graduated in December 1945. He started his 40 year career in the oil business in 1949 with Sinclair Refining Co. and retired from Mapco as Wholesale Sales Manager after 23 years. Mr. White next worked at Adesa Auto Auctions for fifteen years as a driver/courier again retiring at age 82. Mr. White was married to Lydia M. Clayton in 1947 and were married 64 + years until her death in May 2012. He is survived by his sons, Henry M. White of Memphis and Patrick Lee White of Collierville, TN two grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Mr. White was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Germantown and a long time member of the Germantown Athletic Club. Mr. White traveled throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. He made numerous trips to Europe and also visited Russia and China. The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 5 from 4 pm – 6 pm and a funeral service will be held at 11:30 am on Monday June 6 all at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery.
