Richard H. Jacobs, Sr.'s Obituary
Richard H. Jacobs, 87, of Memphis, Tennessee, retired advertising executive and restaurant owner, passed away at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS on November 16, 2009 under the care of his daughter.A World War II Air Corps Veteran, he was member of the Memphis Chapter of the Military Order of World Wars. He attended Tulane University, and was a graduate of Loyola University of the South in New Orleans. He was listed among Who’s Who for college graduates. He and his wife Lorraine were founding members of Shady Grove Presbyterian Church. He was past director of Memphis Junior Achievement and Le Bonheur Hospital. He was also past director of the Summit Club, and both Colonial and Farmington Country Clubs.After a successful advertising career as President of Noble-Dury Advertising in Memphis and Nashville, he was President and a co-owner of Leonard’s Barbeque. He was also a member of the of the Board of Directors for Dacus Incorporated of Tupelo, MS. for over a decade.Mr. Jacobs, widower of Lorraine Perry Jacobs, leaves a son, Richard H. Jacobs, Jr. of Memphis, TN and a daughter, Elizabeth Jacobs Carter of Madison, MS., where he lived out his final years. He also leaves two beloved grandchildren, Chris Carter of Madison, MS and Lauren Carter of Nashville, TN. The light of his life was his only great grandchild, Austin Carter. Richard also leaves a sister Dorothy Scheifer of Ballwin, MO. and was preceded in death by his sister, Marion Ellis of Columbia, MO.Services will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home in Memphis with entombment next to his beloved wife, Lorraine Perry Jacobs, in Memphis Memorial Park Mausoleum on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 2:30 pm. Visitation will be held in the Riverside Chapel at Memorial Park from 4:30 to 7pm on Friday, November 20. He requests all memorials be sent an autistic research and/or treatment organization in Austin’s name.
