Richard Green's Obituary
Richard Martin Green, 73, passed away in Memphis, after a long battle with long term illness. Richard was born in Chicago, Illinois to Martin Wilson and Rita Roherty Green on January 6, 1943. He went to high school at Fenwick in Oak Park, IL and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Business from DePaul University in Chicago. After graduation he worked as an agent for the Internal Revenue Service Organized Crime Unit in Chicago, IL. As a young agent his work undercover contributed to the arrest and convention of organized crime leaders in the Chicago area. In 1968 he was hired as a Special Agent by the United States Secret Service in the Chicago field office before he was assigned to the Eisenhower Protective Detail in Gettysburg, PA. During his career he worked on various protective details from President Lyndon Johnson through President Ronald Reagan. In 1973 Richard was assigned to the Memphis field office where he retired in 1983. His skills in Intelligence and Protection also served private ventures such as The 1990 Olympic Torch Relay, Hands Across America, The Loren Roberts Celebrity Golf Event, and The Tyson- Lewis Championship Fight Held at the Pyramid in Memphis and dignitaries such as Michael Jordan, Bob Costas and Harry Caray. In addition to his years of Civil Service he served on the Local Organizing committee for the Liberty Bowl Football classic from 1986-2012 in roles of Director of Security and Special Assistant to the Executive Director. In 1999 he received the First Spirit of America Award from the Liberty Bowl. The Spirit of 1776 Award is presented to an individual who embodies the patriotic spirit of the AutoZone Liberty Bowl and has served their community in an exemplary manner. He was an Adjunct Professor at Shelby State Community College, The Memphis Police Academy and the Shelby County Sheriff’s department sharing his knowledge and skills related to protective duties and investigation with future law enforcement personnel. He enjoyed White Sox baseball, Chicago Bulls basketball, Notre Dame football and was a Die Hard Chicago Blackhawks fan. Richard is preceded in death by his Mother Rita Roherty Green and Father Martin Wilson Green and sister in law Patricia Ryan. Richard is survived by his wife Kathleen, sons Rich and Danny, Daughter-in-Laws JoAnn and Brandi, Grandchildren Brady, Kara, Kage, Mattylyn and Tucker, brothers, Randy, Tim, Martin and Sister Lisa, Brother-in-law Bernard Ryan and numerous Nieces and Nephews Visitation will be held at Memorial Park on Sunday, June 26 from 5:00-7:00PM. A Funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 8151 Poplar Ave, Germantown. TN 38138 on Monday, June 27 at 10:00AM. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The American Diabetes Association.
